This noodle-like mushroom was misidentified as a Psilocybe cubensis variety for decades. Legendary mycologist Alan Rockefeller sequenced the DNA of his P. cubensis var “Natalensis” samples and found that they were 7 nucleotides different than true cubensis varieties — officially making Psilocybe natalensis its own species!

P. natalensis (sometimes known as “NSS” or “Natal Super Strength“) are unique, skinny, small-capped mushrooms. High Performance Liquid Chromatography has shown these mushrooms to contain higher-than-average amounts of psilocybin/psilocin when compared to cubensis varieties and strains.

P. natalensis mushrooms hail from the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.
